The Jill Series is a body of work by Matilda Dixon, an emerging artist based in Melbourne, created as a tribute to her grandmother, Jillian Dixon, who passed away at the end of 2024.
The series portrays Jillian during her experience living with brain cancer, focusing on her strength, individuality, and presence throughout this time. Through portraiture, Dixon reflects on memory, care, and the evolving nature of identity, capturing both vulnerability and beauty within each image.
Rendered in oil paint and mixed media, the works emphasise emotional depth through layered surfaces, colour, and gesture, forming a personal record of love, loss, and remembrance.
